Happy Father's Day

I'd like to say Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there. But most importantly to the best dad, my father, Gerald Hammer. I can't quite put my finger on how they did it but my parents just raised me differently, I'm far from perfect, but most of us are, and that's not their fault. It was never about punishment, I don't remember being grounded, sent to my room or... well okay I remember being spanked a time or two, but it probably didn't hurt. The real fear I always had was disappointing my parents. I hung around with people who drank, smoked and did drugs but never touched any of it, I have no idea what my punishment would have been but it would have been nothing compared to how sad I would have been to see the disappointment in my parents' eyes. I really must ask them how they accomplished this! We didn't go to church so it wasn't about the fear of God or anything either. Not that this matters, but I heard Tom Selleck say this on a talk show as well. The fear of disappointing their parents by doing something wrong is truly a greater parenting tool than fear of any punishment. I hope to be able to accomplish this with my children. I also want to say that I'm so glad to have been able to enjoy music and movies that my father loves. I would whole-heartedly rather hear the beatles or creedence than so many newer bands. My favorite movie of all time is The Court Jester a film from the 50's, starring Danny Kaye, Basil Rathbone and a very young Angela Lansbury. My father also tried to help me with my bowling but I was too arrogant to listen, I realize I was wrong now. Well I don't want to make this incredibly long but I just want to say Thank You So Much for being a Terrific Father, Dad!!! Can't wait to see Green Lantern, even though it will probably be silly. Oh by the way, this is your father's day card, hope you're not DISAPPOINTED  ;)  !
